Historic First Presbyterian Church
Before Talbot Commons Pocket Hotel opened, 114 W. Sixth Street was the home of the First Presbyterian Church and Fellowship Hall in Taylor, Texas. The current sanctuary was built in 1912; however, the congregation began meeting at this location in 1878, making it the site of the first church in Taylor.
The property was purchased in March 1878, and a wood frame sanctuary was completed by Thanksgiving. Rev. James P. Lyle was the first full-time pastor in 1889, and a parsonage was constructed for him and his family behind the church in 1890. Ten years later, their home burned to the ground.
After the current staff suspected paranormal activity, Spell Caster Ghost Tours founder Gretchen Upshaw conducted two investigations with local business owner and ghost hunt partner Jennifer Lopez. After capturing EVPs, disembodied footsteps, phantom sounds and noises, and unexplainable EMF activity, we decided to share our findings by offering an Overnight Paranormal Investigation.
